“The Art School”...a dream that came true

001_sml

Only a handful of his friends fully appreciate that the creation of an Art School for everyone has fulfilled a dream he shared with a “wonderfully mad” artist friend. They both realised that they could harness the beauty of Olhão to fulfil that dream.

“We must never ever forget all those things that are so special about Olhão....the light... the houses...the architecture...the markets...the islands...the river, and of course the people” said Clark.

All these and much more go to prove why they were very perceptive in choosing Olhão for the only private Art School outside the Lisbon area.

What makes the school so different and special is the 150 year old olive tree in the centre of the school in the “old town” in Olhão. Clark owns the buildings around the school and created a beautiful space for the numerous aspiring artists who share with him that passion to “create their beauty”.

Clark fell in love with the quaintness that is Olhão some 5 years ago having spent a considerable amount of time in Portugal. He decided to follow the example of an English painter living there whose mission was to preserve the heritage that was fast disappearing in Olhão with the “advent” of the developer in the Town.

Luck has never been too far away for Clark and Olhão was certainly no exception....his first restoration has become his home and the school will hopefully not be his last.

“We saw the space....we used our imagination .....and with vision did what we wanted to do. The rest is just history.....the Art School is simply magnificent.” Says a relaxed Clark with his not unusual look of complete happiness and joy that is so well known in the Town.
